Inside the numbers on the new NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.4
We run through the stats and specs of Nikon’s new classic 35mm prime lens
The new NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.4 is a fast prime lens with a classic 35mm focal length, so it’s perfect for street, reportage and all-day photography, as well as a great choice for documentary, video and filmmaking. The large f/1.4 maximum aperture combines with fantastic optics to deliver beautiful bokeh, great subject separation and superb sharpness, while the 27cm minimum focus distance means you can get up close for those intimate images. Let’s take a look at the specs and stats that reveal what this lens is capable of.
Mount: Nikon Z mount
Nikon’s Z mount is wider than the competition, and a wide mount means more light (and more detail) hitting your camera’s sensor.
Focal length: 35mm
Considered a ‘classic’ focal length, the angle of view of this full frame (FX) 35mm lens is close to that of the human eye, giving you natural-looking images, perfect for street photography, landscapes, travel, reportage and video.
Aperture range: f/1.4 – f/16
The fast aperture allows for a wide range of creative expression, with sharp images in low light, the ability to reduce blurring with faster shutter speeds and beautiful bokeh and subject separation with such a shallow depth of field. The lens can be closed down all the way to f/16 for sharpness from front to back of your image.
Lens construction: 11 elements in 9 groups
The optics on the NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.4 help you to create super-sharp images, eliminating chromatic and coma aberrations and minimising colour fringing. In fact, the lens is optically superior to the equivalent pro-level NIKKOR AF-S lenses.
Minimum focus distance: 0.27m
Get really close to your subject and with the aperture wide open you can create stunning separation and bokeh.
Size and weight: approx. 74.5 x 86.5mm, approx. 415g
Close in size and weight to the NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.8S, the NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.4 is well balanced on your camera and easy to carry around all day, ready for capturing images on the go.
Focusing system: internal focusing with STM motor
Fast, quiet and with minimised focus breathing, the NIKKOR Z 35mm f/1.4 will latch on to your subject quickly and stay there, so your stills and videos will stay sharp where you need them to be.
Controls: manual focus ring, control ring
The control ring can be assigned a variety of functions for ease of use in either stills or video

A range of filters are available, including Neutral Colour, Polarizing and Soft Focus.
